Central to the vision of Stories, Songs, and Stretches!® is that the children receiving the programs will see themselves celebrated in the experience. In order for this vision to come to life, we must do more than profess the value of diversity – we must actively work to cultivate it.
In all of the Stories, Songs, and Stretches!® workshops, participants are exposed to excellent and engaging diverse children’s literature they will be excited to share with young children. We ensure at least 40% of the resources we showcase at all of our workshops are by and/or about diverse creators, with particular emphasis placed on #ownvoices materials. In our workshop “Mindful Inclusion and Social-Emotional Learning,” we frankly discuss the relationships between inclusion and social-emotional development, and the barriers that may prevent children from seeing themselves in books.
